Game 3 of the Midwest Negro League pitted Dave Brown (stl) against Webster McDonald (kcm).

Both pitchers cruised through the first two innings before Brown ran into issues in the third. Pop Lloyd led off with a single and was followed by a McDonald single to put runners on the corners.  Jud Wilson came to the plate and hit a chopper to the hole at third that John Beckwith fielded cleanly but could not get it out of his glove quick enough. This forced McDonald at second and allowed Lloyd to score giving the Monarchs a 1-0 cushion. Wilson then stole second base putting himself into scoring position. A distracted Brown then surrendered a mammoth home run to Charles Blackwell and the score was suddenly 3-0 with one away. Josh Gibson coaxed a walk and Brown’s day was treacherously close to being over. The formidable Buck Leonard was up next and smoked a one hopper to Superman Pennington that was fielded cleanly and turned into an inning ending 3-6-3 double play.

The St. Louis Stars had two runners on base with one out or less in the fifth, sixth and seventh inning but only scratched across one run in the seventh on a Cristobal Torriente fielder’s choice. It was a frustrating day of non-clutch performances by the Stars as Rap Dixon (0 for 4) made the third out in the fifth and seventh innings. The ninth started off well with a Pennington walk and a Dobie Moore single to put runners on first and third with no outs.  McDonald buckled down to get Quincy Trouppe to strike out looking, pinch hitter Judy Johnson to plate a run on a slow roller and Torriente to line out to second(missing the split) to end the complete game victory for the Monarchs.
