Ted Trent dazzles in dominant one-hitter

Ted Trent completely dominated in the season’s first one-hit performance. Wild Bill Wright was the only opponent to ‘hit em where they ain’t’ ruining Trent’s bid for a no-hitter with two outs in the seventh inning. Ted also scattered three walks over the complete game win. Trent has only allowed one run over 25 innings in his last three starts lowering his ERA to 5.12.

Biz Mackey tripled in a run(Alejandro Oms) in the third inning to spot Kansas City a one-run lead. Slugger, Vic Harris, increased the lead to 2-0 when he popped his first tater of the season in the fourth. The Monarchs blew it open in the sixth scoring five runs and chasing starting pitcher William Bell from the game.

Ray Dandridge led things off with a base hit and was forced out on a grounder by Bonnie Serrell. Buck O’Neil followed with a single to center that Cool Papa Bell uncharacteristically misplayed allowing the run to score and Buck to scamper to second. Trent singled to bring up one of the league’s best hitter in Dobie Moore. W. Bell was able to wipe out Moore with a drop pitch for the second out of the inning. Things then quickly unraveled as Oms walked, Mackey singled and Chino Smith cleared the bases with a triple. Willie Powell came in to close out the inning getting Harris to fly out.

Chino SmithDandridge and Smith each had three hits, while O’Neil, Oms, and Mackey had two hits for the Monarchs.

Dihigo and Wells bat’s carry Stars

Willie Wells left the yard and had 2 RBI as the St. Louis Stars defeated the Pittsburgh Crawfords by the score of 9 to 6 at Comiskey Park. The entire starting lineup, minus Dave Malarcher, had at least one hit for St. Louis. Five starters had at least two hits led by Wells and Martin Dihigo’s three hits apiece.

Pittsburgh found themselves trailing quickly as the St. Louis bats came through in the first inning as they scored 2 runs on 2 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Dihigo who made the St. Louis fans a happy lot when he doubled which was good for two runs. Pittsburgh tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th, knocking Winters out of the game and scoring three runs.

The win went to Nip Winters(10-4) who allowed 5 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Ray Brown(5-6) was tagged with the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 7 runs in 6 innings.

‘We won because we did the little things right.’ Wells said after the game. ‘This is why we practice things over and over and over, so when we get in close games we don’t make mistakes.’
