Smokey Joe Williams slings shutout for Stars
Smokey Joe Williams picked up his second win of the season in a dominating performance against Indianapolis. Williams allowed five hits, walked four and struck out six over nine innings.
Williams escaped a bases loaded one-out jam in the bottom of the first when he enticed Willard Brown to ground into an inning-ending double-play. Williams gave up a one hit (Rev Cannady single) over the last four innings.
St. Louis scored first in the top of the fourth inning on a Tank Carr double. Dick Lundy followed Carr with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. The Stars added a run on a Turkey Stearnes home run in the top of the sixth, his second in two days. Willie Wells added his second homer in two days to cap the scoring in the top of the eighth.
Home Run Johnson reached base four times for Indy. He had two singles, a walk and was hit by a pitch.
Red Parnell had three hits, including his eleventh double, in the win for St. Louis.

Chino’s three hits lead the charge
Chino Smith hit a home run and had 4 RBI as the Kansas City Monarchs defeated the Memphis Red Sox 6 to 2 at Comiskey Park.
Smith had a good day at the plate. Memphis held a two-run lead heading into the seventh inning when a Dewey Creacy error put runners on second and third with one out. Smith hit a sharp single that plated two to tie the game. In the eighth, after a Pete Hill single gave the Monarchs a 3-2 lead, Smith hit a three-run homer to give the Monarchs a comfortable four-run lead.
Double Duty Radcliffe(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 3 innings. Eggie Hensley(1-2) ended up with the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 4 hits and no walks. Satchel Paige struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings.
