A custom wooden Strat-O-Matic ballpark!

Iron Horse Park was my second attempt at building a custom ballpark to play my beloved Strat-o-Matic baseball. It was built in the summer of 2014. I had planned the build for well over two years (thanks procrastination) and spent three times as much as I should have to build it (live n learn).

It started the day that I saw TommyBaseball’s custom field over at the StratFanForum. Nice wooden structure with a manicured lawn, field lines and bleachers with people watching the game….I was hooked. I built my first stadium out of foam board. It was light weight and looked good. The only problem with that was after it was stored on the shelf for a bit it warped a bit from the weight of the wooden bleachers. That wasn’t good. I started researching light woods that were the same thickness that would be a bit more durable.

Iron Horse Park is custom wooden ballpark (except for model rail road train items) and took about 30 hours to build.

Earlier this year, tabletop sports blog oneforfive.com called Iron Horse Park a “Tabletop Cathedral”.

Iron Horse Park was custom built based on the room that I had available for myself. It comes in at 24 inches square…which is large. I have been working on some newer builds (I’m addicted) and the sizes are smaller…20″ x 20″, 18″ x 18″ and a rectangular build that is about 15″ x 20″.

Yes, those are adhesive LED strip lights that are on the stadium and make it so much fun to play “under the lights”. In August of 2014, I added a small neon model railroad sign above the scoreboard. It looks cool, but I feel it kinda takes away from the aesthetic that I have going on with the bill boarded walls.

Can I buy one?

I have had many requests to build and sell something similar to Iron Horse Park. I have started working on some prototypes and should have pictures of those up on the site soon. My main goals were to make them smaller, the ability to take apart easily and store, and most importantly, affordable. If you are interested in one please contact me through the contact page and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Happy Rolling!
